Meet the Rivera Santos Family from Puerto Rico!

Marie Suzette, Emmanuel, and their two young children send a great big "GRACIAS" to Grace UCC!  With the gift certificates provided to them this holiday season they were able to  purchase cement to use in the construction of their new home, a full size refrigerator, and a Christmas tree complete with decorations for their season celebrations.

Marie shared with Grace volunteer Jenn Newton that they did not have the funds to purchase a Christmas tree this year. The family lost their home and possessions in the 2017 Hurricane Maria. The gift certificates provided to them from Grace UCC allowed them to purchase the tree and the other items for their new home.

They send a great big Gracias and Merry Christmas to you all!

Grace UCC is sponsoring the Rivera Santos family as part of the “Juntos Together” project, and were matched with us with help of volunteer Yolanda Baker, from Church of the Redeemer in Morristown. For more information please see the flyer on the bulletin board at the back of the church on Sunday.

This past Sunday, December 9th, we celebrated the birthday of Church Council member, Keith Yowell. Two years ago Keith suffered a stroke, and has thankfully recovered. We are blessed and grateful to have Keith still with us, and hope to celebrate many more birthdays with him.

Keith’s wife, Karen, thankfully recognized he was having a stroke and got him help quickly. She reminds everyone to know how to identify a stroke in progress:

Please be sure you know how to Act F.A.S.T.
F – Face – ask the person to smile - a person experiencing a stroke may smile crooked, one side of the mouth will droop
A - Arms – ask them to hold their arms out in front of them, one of the arms may be lower than the other
S – Ask – Ask the person to say something, their speech might be different than usual
T – Time – Time is of the essence! Time is Brain!
If you suspect a stroke get the person checked out!! Better an abundance of caution than a tragic outcome!
