Annual Coat Drive Call to Action

It is time for Flemington's 13th Annual Coat Drive! I am reaching out to you because we would love to invite you to join us in supporting this event. Formally hosted by the YMCA in partnership with United Way, the coat drive is now currently hosted by The Salvation Army of Flemington (this is our second year hosting the event). We hope that you will partner with us in collecting warm weather coats, hats, scarves, and gloves that will be distributed to families all across the county. Last year, we were able to distribute over 600 coats to families and individuals in need!! Thank you for your continued support of this community event.

Distribution Date

          SATURDAY, DECEMBER 2nd

Coat Drive Collection Information:

All donations must be made up of new and gently used coats. We are asking that your church, business/company, or organization shares the Coat Drive information with those you interact with. Feel free to print and put up the attached flyers to let your employees and colleagues know about the event. We ask that you collect coats throughout October and early November. We will not be providing boxes for collection, so please create your own collection system. Our goal is to have at least 500 coats before Thanksgiving!

Coat drop-off location:

      40 East Main Street

      Flemington, NJ 08822

Please note: Do not use the donation bin located in the parking lot for the coat drive! This is a separate donation bin, and anything placed inside will not be used for the Coat Distribution this year. Thank you.

Coat drop-off dates:

Starting the week of October 30th. Please schedule a drop off or pick-up time with Envoys Daniel and Leann LaBossiere. We encourage you to drop the coats off during our regular office hours: Tues-Thurs. 9:00-3:00 or Fri. 9:00-12:00

We thank you for the support that you have shown to the Flemington Community and greater Hunterdon County in previous years, and we hope that you will join us in the efforts to provide warm coats to the community again this year. Please reach out to me if you have any questions!

God bless you.

Tell Congress: Urge the Biden administration to prioritize diplomacy on Ukraine!!!

Peace Action recently supported a legislative measure by Rep. Warren Davidson (R-Ohio) that would have required a clear delineation of the administration’s war strategy, including “a diplomatic pathway...by which the United States can facilitate a negotiated cessation of hostilities in Ukraine.” It also required a briefing of the appropriate committees on “the United States strategy with respect to Ukraine and the plans for the implementation of such strategy.”

Not a single Democrat voted for it and 90 Republicans voted no. So perhaps the issue of diplomacy has, sadly, got caught up in partisan politics. The measure would have theoretically delayed  a small portion of aid to Ukraine if the administration failed to report to Congress, but of course the administration can work to ensure that doesn’t happen. The bottom line is that we need measures that ramp up a diplomatic track.

Sincerely,

Jon Rainwater

P.S. Can you let us know about any replies you get about why these members of Congress voted no on the Davidson measure? This will be really helpful as we compile responses as part of our advocacy efforts. Just reply to this email and let us know how they responded.
