Tell the IRS to start an investigation into the NRA's spending

The National Rifle Association Federal Tax-Exempt status 501(c)(4) must be re-examined.

There's a long history of misappropriation of funds by the NRA's nonprofit arm. The NRA has admitted that funds from their non-profit have been used to make former and current executives richer, not to exclusively promote social welfare. The IRS needs to fully investigate the organization that has a huge impact on all of our lives.

The New Jersey Supreme Court is known for decisions that confront cutting-edge legal issues and rely on the strength of our state constitution's expansive view of civil rights and civil liberties. The decisions of the Court have a profound impact on the lives of New Jerseyans and reverberate throughout the state and nationwide.

On Tuesday, June 28, the ACLU of New Jersey will bring together attorneys who have argued in recent and notable cases – as well as our distinguished guest, the honorable retired New Jersey Supreme Court Justice Jaynee LaVecchia – for a discussion on the state of civil rights at New Jersey's highest court.

Volunteer with America's Grow-A-Row

If you've been looking forward to volunteering with us this year,

now is your chance to sign up!

We've updated our Volunteer page with lots of different opportunities,

which begin on August 1st and go until the end of the season.

On our Volunteer page, you'll see bullet points under these headings:

Volunteer in the Fields

  • Free Farm Market Harvesting (SWAT Team). During harvest season, please join our “SWAT Team” and become a Free Farm Market Harvester to harvest crops that will be sent specifically to our Free Farm Markets. We need harvesters daily Monday-Friday 9am-11am, so please sign up for as many shifts as you’d like! Be sure to register so that we know when to expect you. Children are welcome as long as minors are accompanied by an adult.

  • Join us in the fields for Community Harvest Events, which are scheduled throughout the summer. Some events are planned and others pop up randomly as we need more help in the fields, so please check again for more dates!

Deliver Produce

  • You can help deliver produce to one of our Free Farm Market℠ locations from August through the beginning of October. We are in need of volunteers for markets in Flemington, Washington, East Orange, and Jersey City.

We can’t thank our volunteers enough for ALL they do to support our mission to grow and give healthy fresh food to our neighbors in need. America’s Grow-a-Row volunteers help glean, harvest, and deliver produce and assist with education programs.

Volunteering for us is one dirty job but our volunteers are always up for the challenge! Teamwork matters - together, we will donate 2.5 million pounds – 10 million servings – of nutritious fresh produce this year.

Mass Poor People's & Low-Wage Workers' Assembly - June 18, 2022

The First UU Fellowship of Hunterdon County's Social Justice Committee is organizing a delegation to participate in the “Mass Poor People’s and Low-wage Workers Assembly and Moral March on Washington and to the Polls.” The March takes place Saturday, June 18.

According to organizers, it is to be a “generationally transformative and disruptive gathering of poor and low-wealth people“ aimed at “building power for an agenda that challenges the interlocking injustices of systemic racism, poverty, ecological devastation, the war economy, and the false moral narrative of the religious nationalism.” There are three steps to attend.

1. Please, sign up for the march here. https://www.poorpeoplescampaign.org/june18

2. Important! Purchase a seat on a bus! The organizers are using a bus rideshare app called Rally Bus. (Rev. Seth was the first from our Fellowship to buy a seat.) If we sign up a total of 40 riders by June 11, we secure a bus to take us directly from the Old Stone Church, 1 Oak Summit Rd Frenchtown, NJ, early in the morning of June 18. Sign up for a seat here. https://rally.co/booking

3. In the event we do not meet the “40-person” number, Rally Bus refunds the fee. The cost is currently $75, and it rises after June 3. Kathleen Cosgrove and Peggy Gallos are inquiring about alternative transportation in the event we don’t meet the requirement for our own bus. Please add your name to this Rally Bus Contact List so we know who is coming and can contact you if we need to make alternative arrangements.
